. He is also well known for the
he has created.
and have even created a special Gallery slideshow of his favorite replicas.
Included in the slideshow is one of his many step-by-step tutorials and a link to the complete list.
Q:
What is the first Myst replica you created and what prompted you to do it?A: My first replica was the Bahro Tablet, I had seen many other Myst fans doing replicas and I decided to try my hand on my own. I wanted something original and that had never been replicated before. The Tablet was an amazing piece to attempt so I started doing research on the net and found that
Jubilee Studios (Josh Staub) was the artist behind the tablet. He had the blueprint of the glyphs. So it all started with the tablet that I decided to do and then different kinds of props/replicas.
Q:
Have you ever had the time or opportunity to show your work at Mysterium or other public venues?A: I have never had the opportunity to go to Mysterium since they were all far from where I lived, but I did share pictures of my different artwork at many forums and websites.
Q:
Have you ever started on a replica and then had to stop because you weren't completely sure on how to render it? A: Not really. Before starting a project I always research and study different ways of working with different types of materials. Then I try to find multiple pictures of what I want to do. Finding the materials is the hardest part sometimes because of size, shape, rarity of what your looking for; like the
Maintainers suit itself.
Q:
Do you collect Myst art by other artists?A: No, but if I could have the opportunity to purchase something I like, I would because I am able to do certain things myself but not everything. There are lots of talented Myst related artists out there whose work I admire. I couldn't do what they do because I don't have their kind of talent.
Q:
In 2009 you began to document a project where you were creating a Maintainers helmet. Were you able to complete that project or is it still in process?A: The Maintainers helmet was completed, then some fans coaxed me to do the entire suit. That's the hard part! I've purchased a wet suit and started working with it but I have never taken the time to complete it. BUT I am still in the process of completing it.
I did have an appearance once with it and had my girlfriend wear it at a campsite Halloween party. I was dressed as Mandalore the Ultimate (Star Wars) figure beside her. Here is a peek at it:

We have sent a few messages to GO! Magazine volunteers over the last 4 weeks so we could let our members know when it would be published (especially those who are waiting to see their interviews). We are still looking forward to hearing from them.
Current Competition Details
Both contest levels will share the same start date,
September 4, 2011, but the more difficult level (
level 1) has a longer preparation time, and more challenging requirements. Members may take part in both contest levels. One entry per level please. The second level contest (
Props and Accessories) ends first.
Cosplay Contest - Level 1
MYST COSPLAYSubmission deadline: May 4, 2012

Costume design, both adaptive or original , must be noted as such in the submission.
An example of an adaptive design would be Catherine's dress and vest. The design already exists and is clearly illustrated in the game. An example of an original design can be seen in Narcomanic's, Dovah image (
[link]). The design is not described in either the Myst games or books, yet it looks as if it could easily fit into the Myst universe.

A detailed description on what your costume is based on including the game or book title is needed, and if available, visual references should accompany your entry.

If your costume was made by someone else, or if you use purchased elements in your cosplay, you'll need to document it in your description.

Handmade costumes will earn more points depending on the overall craftsmanship. (handmade= items and pieces made by the entrant)

A high quality overall cosplay presentation may earn bonus points (pose, background scenery, etc.)
Images submitted for this contest will take the place of live presentations so good photos are key!
Older costumes may be used, though new photos are highly recommended for this contest. Photo quality will have an impact on points earned for overall presentation.

Image processing is limited to lighting or level adjustments. Edits may not be made that affect the actual costume and you cannot photomanip yourself and the costume over a different background then those you were actually photographed with.

You may ask friends or family to help with photo shoots, makeup and so forth as long as professional services are not obtained.

You may include up to five photos (separate from your reference images) in your submission to show your overall cosplay presentation and costume detailing.
Note from an experienced cosplayer: "
Out of all the pictures submitted, not all are required to be 'pretty pictures', just one is fine. But the pictures together should give as clear a view of the costume as possible, front and back and eventually details."
Cosplay Contest - Level 2
PROPS AND ACCESSORIESSubmission deadline: December 4, 2011
A prop or accessory can be anything evocative of a particular Myst character or environment.

Only props or accessories made *after* the start date of the contest qualify.

The artist may use the prop in their Cosplay entry, but submitted images for this contest level must primarily focus on the prop itself.

You may submit up to 4 photos of your prop or a single collaged image.

A description of what the item is supposed to be, image references and book quotes (if the idea was drawn from one of the Myst novels) need to accompany the entry.

The prop or accessory must be the artist's own work. It cannot have been purchased or made by someone else.
