Years ago MYST set the standard for graphic adventure video games. Those same games continue to spark creativity within a dedicated community of fans.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our desktop wallpaper gallery. Don't stop with just the one gallery though. We have 18 separate galleries representing Myst related art here at dA.

Seleyah

This week we're featuring the work of Seleyah. Not only does she bend her experience and talent to making desktop wallpapers, she's also shared them with her fellow Myst fans here at dA! The impressive results can be enjoyed in our Wallpaper Gallery.

We asked Seleyah a few questions about how she makes her beautiful desktop wallpapers. Below you can read her answers. Afterward we hope you'll take time to look through her gallery and leave her a bit of :+favlove: when you're done.

SELEYAH"S INTERVIEW

Q: What prompted you to do your first desktop wallpaper and when did you first start sharing them with others?

A: Well, I credit Lord of the Rings as starting my graphics career. I didn't have much interest in computer art until I saw LotR. I started collecting a few photos and then decided to do some collages. I was 14 then (am 21 now). I started sharing my art on [link] mostly looking for feedback and tips. There was such a lovely response that it encouraged me to keep making and posting (I believe some of my things are still on there).

Q: What programs do you use to create your wallpapers?

A: For the very first two, I used Paint! :) Then I used Adobe PhotoDeluxe Home Edition 3.0, for awhile. Then I got Jasc PaintShop Pro 8.0 for Christmas in 2003 I think. I used that until I got Adobe Photoshop CS2 for Christmas 2006.

Q: Are there any particular filters or apps you find you use most often when blending images?

A:
Most every wallpaper/desktop I make is pretty unique. I use lots of brushes and textures. I also love Photoshop actions. I may use the same brushes or textures again and again, but always in a different way.

Q: Finally, we noticed your traditional portrait work in your gallery. Do you ever incorporate your traditional art with your desktop wallpapers?

A: No, I've never incorporated traditional art (or at least not my own) into my desktops. But that's an idea! :D

CURRENT COMPETITION: Stranger Than Ever

Monday June 15 is the start date for the Myst Fan club sponsored competition, Stranger Than Ever.

Participants will create their own interpretation of the 'Stranger' set in a scene from their favorite corner of the Myst universe. In addition to the following awards, all entries will be placed in a gallery made especially for this competition.

:bulletyellow: All media qualify for this competition. Traditional drawing & painting, digital pieces, sculpture, 3D models, works rendered in textiles, etc.

:bulletyellow: Images of the finished pieces must be submitted to the club gallery by Wednesday, July 15.

:bulletyellow: The artist's description of the submitted work must include the name of the Myst scene. For instance if your interpretation of the stranger is set in Edanna, you'll need to include that information in the description of your submitted work.

:bulletyellow: There is a limit of one entry per club member.

Judging Guidelines:

30% - Relevance of work to the contest theme, namely, the character of the Stranger in the Myst universe.
30% - Creativity, work shows original thought. Ideas expressed are creative and inventive.
30% - Technical expertise in the chosen medium.
10% - Clarity of the written artistic description accompanying the entry.

Awards:

The winning piece will earn the artist a 1 month dA subscription, and a handcrafted set of 'Myst' cards.

The runner up will share a one month module feature on the club's main page (not the same as a journal feature).

Note: The three judges for our current competition are:

:iconlostthyme: and :iconhylianjean: and :iconkefrith:

The 10th Annual Mysterium is being held July 30th through August 2nd, in Spokane, Washington.

We normally only see the complex in the middle of the sea on Teledahn, but we know it has a mainland, or at least islands somewhere: [link]
